
Kathmandu, 14 August: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has returned the Citizenship Bill to the House of Representatives for reconsideration. She sent the bill back to the House of Representatives as per the Article 113 (3)of the Constitution of Nepal. According to the constitutional provision, there was a deadline for authentication or return of the Bill from President Bhandari by Monday.
“Since it is deemed necessary to reconsider the matter related to the obtaining of citizenship by the Federal Parliament in the Bill made to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063, which was certified by the Speaker of the House of Representatives before the President for authentication in accordance with Article 113 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, has been sent back for reconsideration,” reads the press statement issued by the Office of the President.
