Health Exchange Nepal supports Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital

The Health Exchange Nepal (UK) has handed over 7.65 million rupees to the Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital in the name of the late Dr Bibek B. Pradhan.

Dr Binek B Pradhan, a Nepali national obtained a specialist degree in MRCOG in 1969 from the UK after graduating from Calcutta. As the first Nepali male gynaecologist, he returned to Nepal to serve the nation. Due to the conservative society during that time, he had to return to the UK. He worked as a GP in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, until his retirement in 1993.

After retirement, he established a radiotherapy unit at the Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital with the support of Rotary International. He also initiated a successful cancer screening and care programme through a special project.

He has been a key player in raising and mobilizing funds to start a new building at the Hospital.

He died on 28 April 2021 following a prolonged illness. His friends and families raised 5000 pounds i.e. 765000 rupees in his memory through the charity “Health Exchange Nepal (UK)” to support the Hospital in Bhaktapur. To commemorate his devotion with the Hospital, a waiting hall of the Hospital has been named in his name.
