Bam Dev announces new party

By Our Reporter

Remaining undecided for months, former CPN-UML vice-chairman Bam Dev Gautam has finally opened a new political party ‘Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Ekata Rastiya Abhiyan’ on Tuesday.

Gautam who had launched a campaign to keep unity in the erstwhile NCP last year had converted the same campaign into yet another communist party.

Gautam said that the party was declared with the main objective of uniting the communist parties in the country.

He also announced that their party was backed by a few political parties.

Gautam who sometimes titled towards Madhav Kumar Nepal and at other times towards KP Sharma Oli even wrote an election song for CPN (Unified Socialist)  during the local polls. But now he has formed his own party. In 1998, he had split the UML and formed CPN-ML.

Stating that the communist movement is on the verge of failing, Gautam said, “Nepali Congress (NC) has emerged as the largest political party from local polls and the party will secure a majority in the upcoming election of House of Representatives and provincial Assemblies if the communist forces do not come together.”

“After that, the NC will not need an alliance,” he clarified.

The new party led by Gautam has 75 central members, with eight its central secretariat having eight members.

Gautam is the party’s coordinator, DB Karki is the secretary and Om Sharma Chalise, Dilliraj Bhattarai, Durga Bhandari, Nikant Pandey, Bhagwati Bista and Yubaraj are the central secretariat members.

The NCP was formed after the merger between CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) in 2017. However, the party witnessed the split following the intra-party rift in 2021.
