Finance Minister Janardan Sharma Pravakar had changed the customs duty on imports by using an unauthorized broker during the drafting of the budget for the new fiscal year 2022/23. Opposition parties objected to the issue of the entrance of an unauthorized person at the minister’s chamber when the senior Finance Ministry officials were giving a final touch on the budget. The opposition parties blamed the finance minister for initiating policy corruption by changing the customs duty for the benefit of certain business groups. The Prime Minister has not responded to the protest in Parliament and no investigation has been made on such a serious issue.
Tourism Minister Prem Ale is alleged for manhandling a senior official, executive chairman of Nepal Airlines, at his chamber in the Ministry. The Prime Minister has not spoken a single word against the minister who has performed unpolite and unnatural behaviour against a senior officer. No action has been taken by the concerned authorities against such behaviour of the minister even after the media produced an audio clip of the incident. Oddly, the victim, who was manhandled by the minister has been expelled from the job.
A provincial minister in the Lumbini Province, Bimala Khatri Oli manhandled the wife of the so-called lover of Oli even by reaching the house of the victim. She is still the minister.
Deepak Manange Gurung, known to be a gangster who is currently a minister in the Gandaki Province, had manhandled section officer Prakash Adhikari. Manange is still the minister.
The alliance partners in the government are concerned about the number game for saving their governments and they are unable to take action against those who are committing such crimes.
The concerned authorities have remained silent against such criminal acts performed by those who are in power. To what extent the criminal activities been intensified and impunity existed in society, we are experiencing.
Manipulating revenue is a serious crime and also it is an act of a traitor. Manhandling the government officers is a serious violation and abuse of authority and those who committed such an act are subject to be punished. The civil servicemen are not a slave of those ministers, rather, they are more qualified and more educated than the ministers. A minister cannot humiliate the government servicemen.
The silence maintained by the government authorities and the executive chef of the government has decimated the message of impunity to those criminals. Moreover, suspending the executive chief off NAC is an act of anarchism performed by the cabinet of ministers.
Indeed, the Prime minister has once again proved that he is an incapable leader, moreover, there has been seen lawlessness, bad governance and total anarchism of the mighty people against those helpless people. The doctrine of muscle power exists in society.
Loktantra has become synonymous with loot-tantra, we have been writing it time and again. Now, impunity has become the main characteristic of the present system. When all the anomalies exist under the system we are practising, one cannot hope for good governance in the country. When all are in a rush for looting the government coffer, we cannot see a vibrant picture of the nation. All the organs needed for good governance have already been spoiled and we are facing a crisis in the foreign policy handling. The Nepal Army had remained a strong institution, now, the political actors are targeting for destroying this institution as well. Maybe, this is the era of destroying a peaceful country from all corners.
