BABBLES

Earlier, this Weekly had reported that the actual price of the Nepali currency could be more than 175 rupees against 100 rupees of the Indian currency. The government needs to devalue the currency by evaluating the trade position and purchasing power of the Nepali economy. Viewing the present trade deficit, the Nepali currency is being continuously evaluated. However, the Finance Ministry and also the Nepal Rastra Bank are hiding the real exchange price of the Nepali currency.
In the black market, one should spend 165 rupees to get 100 rupees of the Indian currency. Accordingly, one should pay 125 rupees for one unit of the US dollar.
Some countries, as a market strategy, artificially devalue their currency so that they could sell their products at cheap prices in the international market. But Nepal’s case is different. Nepal is an import oriented country. Nepal has set a fixed exchange rate with the Indian currency to hide the real picture of the Nepali economy. In fact, the Nepal Rastra Bank buys Indian currency from the banks in Singapore by paying foreign currency and paying Indian currency to India against imports. We have almost no item for foreign export and we need to import many items from the foreign market. Our foreign currency earnings are not good, therefore, our currency is not acceptable in the international market. Not an odd, we are heading towards bankruptcy!
View tower fashion
There is a fashion or competition of the local bodies in constructing view tower. Our former prime minister decided to construct a view tower in Damak with the support of China. We cannot see Mt. Everest or any other views from the view tower in Damak, even though, the government is spending millions of rupees for the construction of the view tower there. If added the total cost of such view towers constructed all over the country after the introduction of the present “loot-tantra”, the country could construct the Budhigandaki multipurpose project – generating electricity, water for irrigation for a huge portion of land, establishing huge mineral water plant and also developing the dam site as the tourist spot. The total amount spent on the view towers could be enough for the construction of schools and hospitals in every local government.
As we are facing an acute shortage of funds for development projects, we should not have spent funds for the construction of view towers, instead, we should have given priority to the construction of the irrigation projects or fertilizer plants by utilizing locally produced wastes! Who cares about it!
Election alliance essential for wife, daughter
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba wants his wife Arju Deuba to be elected from a constituency in Kailali in the federal elections. Therefore, an election alliance is important for ensuring her victory.
Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda wants to reelect his daughter Renu Dahal. Prachanda has already started to lobby for his daughter and the entire NC workers in Bharatpur should sacrifice for the Maoist Center.
The present move for an election alliance among the ruling five parties is just ensuring the victory of the supreme leaders, their wives and relatives, not for other leaders, as we have understood.
This is no more than a political syndicate that has been flourished in this loottantra!
QUOTES OF THE WEEK
- “Conspiracy is being hatched against Loktantra”, said senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel.
From where is Loktantra facing threat — from Congress, from communists, or from the communist congress?
The fact is that democracy has been finished by loktantra; loktantra is finished by republic and republic is being eaten by communists. Congress is supporting this move!
Laxman Ghimire
- Let’s make arrangements to not pay the salary and budget to the people’s representatives as long as there is debt on the country!
Rajesh Ahiraj
- Those, who follow the Prithivi-thought, raises Nepal. A patriotic self-reliant economy is the mantra of Prithivi-thought. Prithvi-thought is the only strong ideological Nepali weapon to protect and awaken the basic national ideology and end corruption.
KhagendraRaj Sitoula
- Deuba and Poudel, who said that they cannot defeat Oli without an alliance, have already lost the elections, lost the party. They are now in a position to go from house to house carrying the Maoists requesting votes for them!
Keshav P. Bhattarai
- Since educational qualifications are not required in Nepal’s politics and even moral conduct is not specified, abductors, murderers, rapists, corrupt and tax evaders are enjoying power.
Nimkant Pandey
- Thinking that Congress, UML and Maoists will build the country is like expecting milk from a bull.
Rajendra Lingden
- Multiparty democracy doesn’t work in a society like ours. For a democracy to work, it needs an educated and aware citizenry, not sheeple who trade votes for a plate of chicken rice and a bottle of beer. Right now we have kleptocracy in the name of loktantra.
Apil Gurung
- In absence of politically civilized leaders/people and civilized politics, those who are fishing in muddy water will continue to rule on us!
Ramesh Bhandari
- Those who were advocating for electricity should be sold only after realizing the immediate and long-term needs of Nepal, were blamed for being “extremist nationalists”! Now, they are ready to pay 38 rupees per unit of electricity imported from India!
They are ready to pay 15 billion 20 million rupees to India by importing 400 MW electricity from there. What about ethics?
