Kathmandu, 9 March: Sundar Nath Bhattarai, former ambassador and the chairman of the China Study Center, Nepal, said that Nepal is watching with profound interest the convening of ‘Two Sessions’, the most famous and largest annual political event of China, being held now in Beijing from 4 March, where thousands of political elites have converged, on their 5th session of 13th Congress, to advise and decide on central government’s priorities and plan for the year ahead.
Bhattarai said, “Apart from the adoption of the advice of the top political advisory body, CPPCC, the National People’s Congress, China’s legislature, is seized with the Work Report, submitted by the premier Li Keqiang, involving China’s policies on the economy, military, trade, diplomacy, matters pertaining to fiscal and social spheres, and more”.
“The most notable annual targets, among others, set in the report is 5.5 % GDP growth for the next year, though low since 1991, is hard which will need great efforts to achieve, as per Premier Li himself. Another target set is to achieve Zero- COVID status, which will also need fine-tuning, as per him. Among other important targets, the most talked about is 7.1% growth in its defence expenditure as compared to last year which is said to be three times higher than that of India and second to America, and the target set for employment generation is the creation of 11 millions of jobs in China for the year 2022”, Bhattarai informed about the important assembly which discusses China’s national targets.
“The Two Sessions of this year deserve special importance in the context of the ongoing 14th Five Year Plan (2021-25) and its ‘Vision 2035’, follow-up activities on poverty elimination and rural revitalisation, population growth and three-child policy, dual circulation strategy, relating to increments of domestic market and manufacturing capabilities, China’s commitments to world environmental preservation and its obligations to many other problems arising out of various political uncertainties prevailing in the world at present, Bhattarai opined.
“China’s option on core leadership in the new era, enlivened by Xi Jinping Thought, and accentuated by the constitutional amendment adopted by the 19th National Congress off-limiting the two terms of China’s Presidency, seems to have settled its future course, which is left to come to the surface during the 20th National Congress of CPCCC to be held towards the later month of this year. The continuation of core leadership is indeed the strongest base for achieving China’s rejuvenation and the objective of mid-century goals. Nepal unreservedly supports president Xi’s continued participation in it as per the wish of the Chinese people, as Nepal is confident that China’s rise as a global power is inevitable and is ascertained under his core leadership in the new era” the chairman said.
“China Study Center extends its wholehearted support and profound good wishes for the successful accomplishment of China’s dream of rejuvenation,” said Bhattarai.
