Finally, Deuba proved him pro-American

By Our Reporter

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is often projected as a pro-American politician in Nepal.

Since Juila Chang Bloch, the former US ambassador to Nepal, arranged Deuba’s marriage with Arzu Rana in early 1990s, Deuba was said to be close with America. And this time, he has proved it by passing the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact.

Of course, Prime Minister Deuba was determined to get the MCC endorsed by the parliament although the situation was not in his favour. The ruling coalition parties were against its passing. Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota was not willing to table it, and the cadres of the two ruling parties had been demonstrating violently in the streets against the MCC. But Deuba was so determined to pass it that he even became ready to end the present coalition and forge new coalition with CPN-UML.

His hectic exercises and the cooperation he got from within the party made him achieve the success. When he gave more importance to the American project than the post of the PM, one can easily believe the allegation that he is a pro-American politician in Nepal.
