Kathmandu, 29 December: Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has said that the need for a monarchy has increased. Citing the example of Sikkim’s merger, he argued that Nepal might have also been merged to another country in absence of monarchy.
He claimed that the then King Birendra had proved that the king is more patriotic than the leaders of political parties.
Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu today in memory of the late King Birendra, chairman Lingden claimed that Sikkim was annexed in 1975 in absence of monarchy and a similar threat has increased in Nepal as well. Sikkim, a sovereign nation, was annexed by India but nobody carried for their motherland. Still, Sikkim is there but not a sovereign nation Sikkim. In recent days, our country has been facing the same danger”, he said.
Former Minister Bipin Koirala also said that there is no alternative but to establish a king for the existence of the country.
Today, patriotic Nepalis observed the 76th birth anniversary of the late King.
Pous 14 (29 December) is the birth anniversary of the late King Birendra, a patriotic, peace-loving and development-oriented king of Nepal. King Birendra had proclaimed for declaring Nepal as the Zone of Peace and around 116 nations, except India, had recognized the King’s proposal.
