15,000 Nepalis languishing in jails in India

Kathmandu,24 December:  Nepali workers who reach various parts of India  for employment are often imprisoned. Even though they are innocent, they have been trapped due to lack of knowledge of legal battle and even the state’s indifference.

According to the Nepali unity Forum, a social organization based in India, there are 15,000 Nepalis in various jails.  Nepalis are imprisoned on various false charges. In some cases, Indian employers have sent Nepali workers to jail.  After being employed for a long time, they are sent to jail on charges of theft, murder and robbery as they deny to pay salary and provide other benefits for a long time. “Instead of clearing outstanding due amount, the employers make false charges and send Nepalis to languish in jails,” the forum has stated.
