Hopeless scenario

Political Commentary

By P.R. Pradhan

Nepali Congress’ senior leader Ramchandra Poudel has presented a 10-point agenda for the transformation of the party into a democratic one. He described the public frustration, anger and mistrust towards the political parties. Moreover, he said that the nation’s future is in chaos due to the irresponsible attitude of the political parties. Poudel has, in this regard, prescribed a 10-point agenda for the transformation of the Nepali Congress.

Accordingly, NC leader Prakashman Singh, while unveiling a book on democracy penned by NC’s intellectual Lokesh Dhakal, said that the country has suffered a lot due to the wrong behaviour of the political parties and their leaders. He said that they have made politics the venue to earn property.

Poudel and Singh have spoken the truth but whether they said it just for public consumption or they are really worried about the present political chaos, one cannot trust them as they have already been tested.

To recall, Poudel was the very person who had asked the reinstated House of Representatives to greet Sitaram Yachury and the other Indian leaders for their support in the 2006 April Uprising. Yachury was invited as the special guest to witness the session of the instated House.

Whether Poudel believes it or not, the present political chaos is the result of the 12-point agreement and an unholy alliance between the democratic forces and the extreme communists under the initiatives of the South Block and RAW!

Present scenario:

The nation is downgrading from all aspects. There has not been seen anybody to rescue the falling nation. There is no sign of hope on the Nepali horizon. We know all the leaders are incapable and they cannot lead the nation to a proper path. A political system with a check and balance mechanism could give a proper direction to the nation. Since the dethronement of the institution of monarchy, a patron and monitor of the nation, we have witnessed the rapid downfall of the nation in the domestic as well as in the international arena.

The foreign policy of the governments is in chaos. We are economically downgrading. Political leaders are massively involved in rampant corruption. They are practising anarchism in the name of loktantra (democracy).

The country’s largest political party UML has held its 10th national convention by electing the same old face K.P. Sharma Oli as the chairman.

Nepali Congress, the second-largest party, which is presently leading the government, is preparing for its 14th national convention. Possibly, the national convention will elect Sher Bahadur Deuba as the president of the party for the next term.

Oli has already become prime minister two times and Deuba is the prime minister for the fifth time. Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda, Madhav Nepal, Baburam Bhattarai, former prime ministers, are leading different political parties. They are not only active in politics but they are the center of politics. Prachanda, Nepal and Bhattarai are the main architects of the present five-party alliance government led by Deuba. They are the actual leaders running the government. There is a high-level mechanism to dictate the government and those former prime ministers are the members of the unconstitutional mechanism.

The five-party alliance government was formed through a court verdict after Oli monopolized the government and demonstrated anarchism in the name of loktantra. The second reason for the formation of the present unnatural alliance is that Nepal and Prachanda didn’t enjoy power as Oli denied sharing power with his partners. Nepal and Prachanda started a conspiracy to topple down the government. Finally, along with Deuba’s agreement to lead the government, the present alliance government has been formed.

The previous government led by K.P. Oli having the almost two-thirds majority, run the government for three years but did nothing better for the nation and the people, although, Oli doesn’t forget to produce a long list of achievements made by his government.

We cannot hope for a better performance from the present government than the Oli government. The leaders have already become outdated. They lack vision and sacrifice for the nation. Surprisingly, those new generation people support them, vote for them and reelect the very ugly faces who have already demonstrated their incapability.

Nepal’s population census has been affected by the outflow of youths. From almost every house, youths have gone abroad as they see no future for them in the country. The leaders have no regret but feel happy as if they have been able to manage the youth problem. Maybe, they feel happy as they have become able to avoid trouble creating youths.

Be that as it may, there is a hopeless scenario on all sides.
