26 Years Ago: House dissolution: then and now

The seven writ petitions filed in the Supreme Court by three opposition parties and other individuals kept the Nepalese political atmosphere tense for more than 65 days. It also created tension among rival parties and their supporters while stirring the interest of international observers. The writ petitions aimed at reviving the dissolved House of Representatives. The first post–Jana Andolan elected parliament was dissolved by the Nepali Congress (NC) government led by Girija Prasad Koirala last year or just 11 months before it was dissolved for the second time by the UML government led by MonmohanAdhikari.
