CEO of the Tourism Board, upon his arrival from an abroad trip, had brought six bottles of liquor. Nepal’s present customs regulation doesn’t allow to carrying of more than one litre of liquor. He could pay an import tax of five extra bottles he had brought. But, he wished to exhibit his power and manhandled the customs officer.
This is an example that big officers don’t follow government regulations.
By the way, Nepal had a duty-free shop at the Tribhuvan International Airport. On his personal whim, Baburam Bhattarai closed the shop. To note, the duty-free shops are the attractions for the tourists.
Advertisement Board
The Advertisement Board was established by the previous government with the plan of supporting small scale newspapers. The idea was to publish all the government advertisements from one door mechanism. However, the presently constituted Advertisement Board is intended to give trouble to the small scale newspapers by cutting down the fund allotted by the government to the newspapers based on the classification of the Press Council.
The Board, when received the advertisement fund from the Department of Statistics, published the advertisement by including that in the “public welfare advertisement”!
