Kathmandu, 31 October: Vulnerability of Nepal-India open border has reached to the extent that the present government known to be solely pro-Indian, has decided to ask India to introduce an identity card system while crossing the border by citizens from both the countries.
Last week, a group of Afghan citizens have been able to reach Kathmandu via the Belihawa border in Bhairahawa. Accordingly, Rehangiya community people from Myanmar are found entering Nepal via the Kakarvitta border in East Nepal.
Those third country citizens entering Nepal illegally plan to obtain refugee identity cards from UNHCR.
Currently, there are refugees from more than half a dozen countries in Nepal.
If such a trend will continue, Nepal may become the shelter for refugees from around the globe.
Accordingly, Nepal-India open border has encouraged cross border crimes and illegal trade.
Moreover, the Indian side is always blaming the Nepal side for fake currency supply and Nepal is linked in every terrorist activity taking place in India. Even though, it is surprising that India is reluctant for regulating the Nepal-India open border. If India will neglect, maybe, the international terrorist groups may enter India via Nepal by taking benefit of the open border.
After the arrival of the Afghanistan nationals in Kathmandu, the security organs at home have become alert and a meeting of the security organs has advised the Home Minister to request India in introducing identity cards for those who are travelling each other’s country.
Again, the Nepal government should think about keeping immigration records of those people travelling to each other’s country, border security experts suggest.
