Kathmandu, 19 September: Receiving a medal from the government should be a recognition for the contribution of the recipients to the nation.
In present-day Nepal, the main criterion to receive a medal is to become a political worker.
Earlier, those closed to then Prime Minister Oli was decorated with the medals. Today, those party workers and sycophant journalists of the alliance government have been decorated with medals.
The government announced a long list of those recipients of the medals on the occasion of constitution day. The list prepared by the outgoing government has been altered and those closed to the present alliance government have been rewarded with the government medals.
Prachanda’s wife Sita, Madhav Nepal’s father, J.N. Khanal, are the names of the recipients of the medal this year.
Meanwhile, NC’s senior leader P.L. Singh has rejected to accept the medal saying that he has not accepted the present constitution and he is unable to accept the decoration by the government under the constitution which is not acceptable for him.
Similarly, journalist Hari Bahadur Thapa has rejected to accept the medal saying that he is unable to feel pride from being decorated with the medal.
Also, cartoonist Rabin Sayami has declined to accept the medal.
