Japan reconstructs school building

Kathmandu, 16 September: The Japanese Embassy has handed over a school building after completing reconstruction works.
The Japan government has handed over the Namuna Machhindra Secondary School after its reconstruction. The school in Lagankhel, Lalitpur, was severely damaged by the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake.
The Japan government, under the Emergency School Reconstruction Project (ESRP), has taken the responsibility to reconstruct 274 schools by November 2022.
The Handover Ceremony of the newly reconstructed school building to the School Management Committee was held in the presence of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Energy and Water Resources Minister Pampha Bhushal on 15 September. Chief secretary Shankar Das Bairagi, Lalitpur mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan, National Reconstruction Authority’s CEO Sushil Gyawali and JICA chief representative Ms. Yumiko
Japanese ambassador Kikuta Yutaka had sent his congratulatory message.
The Ambassador, in his message, had pointed out that this school has a facility for visually impaired students, thus reconstructed with a “Child, Gender and Disabled (CGD) friendly” concept called “Omoiyari” (Japanese spirit of caring others), being equipped with such facilities as reduced steps, braille blocks and handrails.
