The daily cases of coronavirus have been increasing across the country, with Kathmandu valley witnessing a surge over the weeks.
On Monday, 2,391 cases from PCR tests and 1030 from antigen tests were detected across the country. On Sunday, their number was 1539 and 698 respectively. Likewise, Kathmandu Valley witnessed 999 new cases on Monday from 624 on Sunday. The rise was witnessed from Thursday last week.
The cases started rising after the health experts warned of the third wave of the COVID-19.
Likewise, the daily fatalities, which were between 15 and 35 a day in the past, increased for three consecutive days. On Saturday, 16 deaths were reported which rose to 18 on Sunday and to 25 on Monday.
Likewise, the tests have also increased. On Monday 17, 272 PCR tests were done whose number was only 10,569 on Sunday.
The total number of people who have been vaccinated in Nepal with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine till date has reached 3,405,154. Of these, 1,423,416 have received the second dose as well, according to the MoHP update on Monday.
Meanwhile, owing to a continuous surge in the cases of COVID-19 infection, Chief District Officers of the Kathmandu Valley have extended the ongoing prohibitory order by 10 more days.
A meeting of the Chief District Officers (CDOs) of the three districts in the Kathmandu Valley – Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur –held on Sunday decided to extend the restriction order until August 4.
The term of the prohibitory order extended last time was to expire Sunday midnight.
According to a press statement issued by the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, during the restriction period, the government has prohibited large gatherings of people, operation of party venues, cinema halls, bars, clubs, swimming pools and museums, etc.
Educational institutions are barred from conducting physical classes. Businesses can remain open only till 7 pm.
Likewise, the public vehicles plying the roads in the Valley are restricted to carry passengers in excess of their seat capacities. Likewise, electric three-wheelers and mini-micros are not allowed to carry more than nine people at one time.
Similarly, the academic institutions can conduct examinations in the physical presence of no more than 25 students in one room.
Government prepares to tackle a new wave of virus
The Central Security Committee has decided to begin preparations for the potential third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
A meeting of the committee held at Singha Durbar under the chairmanship of Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand Sunday afternoon took the decision.
