President Bidya Devi Bhandari has repealed the Constitutional Council (Work, Duties, Rights and Working Procedure) Ordinance 2021.
According to a statement issued by the President’s office, President Bhandari repealed the ordinance on Sunday on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers under Article 114 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
The government had earlier decided to revoke the ordinance on Saturday and recommend the President for the same.
President Bhandari had first issued the ordinance, which reduced the quorum required to hold meetings of and take decisions in the Constitutional Council, on May 4. With the scrapping of the ordinance, the officials appointed according to the ordinances have lost their legitimacy on moral ground.
