The Nepal Praja Parishad has made its presence in a total of seven constituencies. It is not being billed to win any parliamentary seats. But it has made as its main election issues the sovereignty, independence, and national dignity of the country. According to Kashiraj Upadhaya, the party’s candidate from Kathmandu constituency No.2, “The current elections are not a question of victory or defeat for us. What we want to do is to awaken people to our abovementioned goals”. Meanwhile, another Kathmandu No 2 candidate Tej Prasad Upadhaya of the Nepali Congress (Bisweswar), says that he is contesting the election “to promote the ideals of B.P Koirala”. But observers see his candidacy as an attempt by the Girija Prasad Koirala camp to damage the poll prospects of the Congress party’s official candidate Daman Nath Dhungana.
