President revokes controversial ordinance

Kathmandu, 18 July: The Constitutional Council (function, duties, rights and procedure) first amendment, Ordinance, 2078 has been scrapped.

Upon the recommendation of the Cabinet held on Saturday and official communication by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Sunday,  President Bidya Devi Bhandari annulled the ordinance in line with Article 114 (2) (B) of the Constitution. With the annulment of the ordinance, the fate of political appointees  made as per the amendment has  hung in balance.
