The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Tuesday confirmed 1,639 new cases of COVID-19, detected through PCR tests, bringing the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 658,778.
In 7,058 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the past 24 hours, 1,639 persons were found infected with COVID-19. Thus the nation’s infection rate is 23.2 per cent, which is very high.
The infection rate is highest in Karnali Province, followed by Gandaki Province and Province 1, according to the latest update of the MoHP.
Currently, there are 26,261 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation. Of them, 2,722 are admitted to various institutional isolations while the remaining 23,539 patients are placed in home isolation.
Of the active patients, 586 are admitted to the ICUs and 182 are receiving treatment with ventilator support as of Tuesday. The number of active cases is higher among people aged between 20 and 60 years.
According to the latest data of the MoHP, eight districts, including Morang, Jhapa, Sunsari, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan and Kaski have more than 500 active cases of COVID-19.
The national death tally reached 9,412 Tuesday with 12 new fatalities. Nepal’s death rate stands at 1.5 per cent.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,611,807 people have been vaccinated with the first dose and 1,103,130 with both doses to date.
