Kathmandu, 12 July: Chinese ambassador has said that China is keen to work together for poverty alleviation in South Asia.
The Center for Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative Development in South Asia has been established with the consent of the foreign ministers of the five South Asian countries in April, she explained in a virtual press conference organised this morning.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had floated the idea in a virtual meeting of the South Asian foreign ministers from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in April.
The participants had given consent on the idea, she said.
Ambassador Hou informed that another forum has also been established to help the South Asian neighbours for carrying out immediate emergency supplies during natural calamities and disasters. In a query on transportation hurdles in Tatopani and Rasuawagari trade points, the Chinese envoy said that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, such a situation has been created. Along with overcoming the pandemic, such hurdles will be ended.
Moreover, in a query on the provision of a non-disclosure agreement imposed by China while procuring Covid-19 vaccines, the envoy clarified that this is not imposed by China only for Nepal. This is an international practice followed by many countries and China is exporting vaccines to many other countries on the same terms and conditions.
The envoy also informed that there are around ten companies producing vaccines against the Covid-19 pandemic and the vaccines from two companies are already approved by the WHO, therefore, supply of the Chinese vaccine will not be disrupted.
At the press conference, coinciding with the centenary celebration of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the ambassador also presented a list of China’s development achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
