Kathmandu, 11 July: China has launched a poverty alleviation and cooperative development programme for five South Asian countries.
Beijing, after consultation with the concerned South Asian countries for the past one year, has established such a forum on Friday by including South Asian countries Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The launching ceremony was attended by Nepal’s ambassador to China Mahendra Bahadur Pandey. However, neither the Nepal Embassy in Beijing nor the Nepali Foreign Ministry has made public such a Chinese venture. The establishment of such a network by ousting India carries meaningful diplomatic gestures.
In April, at the meeting of the foreign ministers of the five countries, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had put forward such a proposal.
After a homework of two months, Beijing has announced the establishment of such a center at the presence of the ambassadors of five countries.
Addressing the launching ceremony of the Center, the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister said that the success achieved by China in poverty alleviation is important not only for China but also for other countries in the globe.
The Center aims to support the South Asian countries for their economic development and improvement in livelihood of the people.
