Kathmandu, 7 July: Although King Gyanendra had cancelled his formal birthday programmes, people from different walks of life have extended birthday greeting on his birthday, 7 July.
They have extended birthday greetings through social networking sites.
The former King turns 75 from today.
Noted film actress Manisha Koirala has tweeted, “On the occasion of the 75th birthday of His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, I wish for His Majesty’s happiness, peace, good health and long life”.
RPP chairman Kamal Thapa has also tweeted birthday greetings for His Majesty’s happiness, peace and good health.
Accordingly, RPP’s leader and mayor of the Nepalgunj Sub Metropolis Corporation, Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana has tweeted, “On the occasion of the 75th birthday of His Majesty I wish for His Majesty’s happiness, peace and long life”.
This year, viewing the Covid-19 havoc, natural calamities, political chaos and sufferings of the people, former King Gyanendra cancelled his formal birthday event on 23 Asar (7 July).
Earlier, on the King’s birthday, his well-wishers used to visit Nirmal Niwas and extend birthday wishes to the King. On the occasion, the King used to grant audience to the people at his residence.
Earlier, the former King, in a statement, had stated that as the nation is passing through a difficult period due to the natural calamities, havoc created by the Covid-19 pandemic and political chaos, he has decided not to observe the birthday ceremony with fanfare.
Nepali people have become desperate from the prolonged political chaos, aggressive slogans and false promises given by the political leaders but failed in fulfilling their commitments, the former King had criticised the wrong performance of the political leaders.
People are facing trouble and they have been desperate from the irresponsible actions of the political leaders intended to finish our own values, assumptions and co-existence, the former King had remarked.
People have become fade up as they have failed to receive the Covid-vaccine. In the meantime, they are facing a difficult time due to natural calamities, he had said.
“Considering the trouble faced by the Nepali people, we have decided to cancel observing our birthday by organizing different events this year”, the former King had stated.
