Kathmandu, 4 July: As Prime Minister and UML chairman K.P. Sharma Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal declined to find a middle path for a negotiation, the party seems to be heading for a formal split.
Of late, Oli had given an ultimatum to the MPs in the Madhav Nepal camp for withdrawing their signature from the writ petition demanding the appointment of NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba to the PM’s post registered in the Supreme Court. The ultimatum is going to be matured by today (Sunday). On Saturday, the UML MPs in the Nepal camp announced that they were not going to withdraw their signature from the writ petition.
Meanwhile, Ghanashyam Bhushal, a member of the second generation leaders taking initiatives against the party split, had made efforts for talks between Oli and Nepal. Bhushal had contacted Oli over his cell phone and handed over the phone set to Nepal for talks.
During the telephone conversation between Oli and Nepal, Oli had asked to withdraw signatures from the writ petition, which was declined by Nepal.
Oli then had remarked that denial on withdrawing signature from the writ petition could be a decision to quit the UML party.
