Kathmandu, 15 May: The Foreign Ministry has recommended names for ambassadorial appointment to 11 countries, including South Korea, Sri Lanka, Australia.
Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali said that the names were recommended by the previous week’s cabinet meeting.
The recommended names have been sent to the Parliamentary Hearing Committee for final approval.
Foreign Ministry’s joint secretary Nirmalraj Kafle is recommended as the ambassador to Austria and Jeevanprakash Shrestha is named as the ambassador to Egypt.
Rameshchandra Shrestha, former mayor of the Biratnagar Municipality and former lecturer of the Mahendra Morang Campus Rameshchandra Poudel is proposed for Sri Lanka. Krishnachandra Sharma, former chief of the political department of the Tribhuvan University is named for the ambassador to South Korea. Sumnima Tuladhar, daughter of late Padmaratna Tuladhar, who is the executive coordinator of CIWIN, an NGO working in the field of children’s right, is named the ambassador to Australia. Jangabahadur Chauhan, a Russian language expert and translator, is recommended ambassador to Russia. Narayanprasad Sangraula, a pioneer communist leader from Jhapa is recommended ambassador to Myanmar. UML’s former minister Ubraj Karki is named ambassador to Bahrain. Kulprasad Nepal is proposed as the ambassador to Brazil, Sumitra Subedi is proposed as the ambassador to Denmark. Megraj Mushalman, former chairman of the UML affiliated Muslim organization, is proposed as the ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
The government had developed criteria for selecting 50 percent career diplomats from the Foreign Ministry and 50 percent candidates from other sectors. However, only two candidates have been recommended from the Foreign Ministry, reports Kantipur daily.
