Daily COVID-19 deaths climb to 225 with nearly 9500 cases

When a prime minister misuses all state resources to consolidate his power and wastes important time to give a false impression to the public undermining the imminent public health risk, the people have no option but to be mere spectators of the situation in which their nears and dears die in lack of oxygen and hospital beds.
It is what is now happening in Nepal. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli kept on inaugurating one incomplete project after another for earning cheap popularity and held several meetings of his faction in the party, organised chariot procession at the cost of lives of people when the COVID-19 cases have already started increasing across the country. Likewise, Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha disobeyed the advice of the experts to shut down schools. Moreover, the government in the greed of commission allowed the entry of corrupt businessmen in the procurement of vaccines, delaying the arrival of even the purchased vaccines. The consequence is: More people are dying in Nepal whereas, in many countries, the governments have managed to control the infection by mass vaccination. But in Nepal, the senior citizens have failed to receive even the second jabs of Covishield because of state-protected corruption.
Although Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi who first revealed the corruption in vaccine procurement denied any irregularities, people do not believe that the government had not resorted to corruption while procuring vaccines because they knew well how the government had involved in corruption while purchasing medicines and health materials from China last year.
On the 13th day of lockdown, Nepal witnessed 225 deaths in 24 hours, the largest single-day fatalities ever recorded in Nepal. Earlier on Monday, 139 people died of the disease.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the country recorded 9,317 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the overall national infection tally to 413,111.
Of the new infections, 537 were recorded in Bhaktpur, 602 in Lalitpur and 2,788 in Kathmandu.
Provincewise, 4,655
new infections were
recorded in Bagmati
Province; 643 in Gandaki;
1,878 in Lumbini; 862 in Province 1 and 440 in Province
2 on Tuesday. Likewise, 410 new cases were detected in Sudurpaschim and 429in Karnali province, indicating that the virus has spread to rural areas as well.
The new infections on Tuesday were detected from 21,316PCR and 720 anti-gen tests. This shows the infection rate very high.
On Monday, the country had recorded 9,271 new cases in 24 hours.
As of Tuesday, the number of active cases has crossed 97,000.
With the increasing cases, the hospitals have lacked beds and oxygen.
