Outgoing Province Chief of Gandaki Amik Sherchan said on Tuesday that he was happy to be relieved of his duties.
Organising a press conference in Pokhara, he said that he was not in politics to seek positions and expressed happiness leaving the post of the chief of Gandaki Province.
“I only became the province chief in the first place because the party wanted me to,” Sherchan said. “I had initially rejected Prime Minister Oli’s proposal to head Gandaki Province. But then, the party made the decision and I was forced to accept it as a disciplined cadre.”
Sherchan reiterated, “I would never have gone against the democratic ideals and accepted unconstitutional elements just to save my post. I would have gladly resigned had I been asked.” He further hoped that federalism prevailed in the coming days.
The government on Monday removed Sherchan as Gandaki chief and replaced him with Sita Poudel.
