Japan has handed over the reconstructed Patan Secondary School building in Lalitpur amidst a function 19 April.
The school was severely damaged by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake. It has been completely reconstructed by Japan under its Emergency School Reconstruction Project (ESRP).
The handover ceremony of the newly reconstructed school building to the School Management Committee was held in the presence of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Lalitpur Metropolitan Corporation mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan, Nepal Reconstruction Authority’s CEO Sushil Gyewali, and JICA’s chief representative Ms. Yumiko Asakuma,
On the occasion, the newly arrived ambassador of Japan Kikuta Yutaka had sent his congratulatory message.
Right after the earthquake, the Japanese government had dispatched Japan Disaster Relief teams for rescue and medical services. At “The International Conference on Nepal’s Reconstruction” held in Kathmandu on 25 June 2015 Japan had pledged assistance worth 35 billion rupees. The reconstruction of the school building is a part of Japan pledged assistance. By the end of March this year, the reconstruction of 215 schools were completed in the most affected six districts, namely, Lalitpur, Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Gorkha, and Makwanpur. Patan Secondary School is one of those completed schools.
