Kathmandu, 17 April: The minority government in the Karnali Province led by chief minister Jiban Bahadur Shahi has been saved after four province council members in the UML crossed the floor.
This is an example of the failure of the parliamentarian democracy. Maybe, the Maoist Center is happy from saving its government in the Province but the drama staged in the Province has proven that the parliamentarian democracy has been failed.
The trend established in the Province may also be repeated in the Federal Parliament. The province council members in the Madhav Nepal faction had crossed the floor in the Karnali Province. In the same way, those MPs in the Nepal camp may cross the floor in the Federal Parliament.
In the Karnali Province, the four members who have crossed the floor can be suspended. If four province council members are suspended, again the government will fall into minority but for one year nobody can challenge the government, according to the existing constitution. Such type of “loktantrik” practice cannot be experienced anywhere in the globe.
