Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that his party is in no mood to immediately form a government.
Inaugurating an interaction programme organised in Dharan, Sunsari on Tuesday on the occasion of the 56th International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Deuba said that the Nepali Congress (NC) was not given the mandate to form a government and clarified that the party would remain in the opposition.
Deuba also stated that his party neither knew about nor was in favour of bringing a no-confidence motion against the government.
He made such remarks a day after the meeting of the party office bearers which was called in the pressure of Ram Chandra Paudel faction in the party.
However, Deuba criticised the government for its discriminatory activities. He also labelled the government as corrupt.
He accused the government of working in a discriminatory manner. Deuba, who is also the former prime minister, also claimed that the current government was corrupt.
He alleged that the government was detaining and prosecuting NC leaders and cadres out of political motivations. He said that the police were releasing criminals if they were communists but arresting Congress members. “They threaten to prosecute Congress activists if they do not join the communist party,” he said.
Deuba also said that the discriminatory and prejudiced government had entrapped Nepali Congress Vice-President Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar without any reason.
The remarks of Deuba might have disappointed many who were expecting the fall of the Oli-led government. It also fueled the speculations that Oli and Deuba were in nexus to dissolve the House and give continuity to the present government.
