Delhi in Nepali politics

By Our Reporter

Immediately after the 2017 general elections, Delhi had assigned NC leaders royal to Delhi – Krishna Prasad Shitaula and Amrish Kumar Singh – to stop a merger between the then political parties UML and Maoist.

The two leaders tried their best for more than two months to convince Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda against the Maoist Center’s merger with the UML.

Hundreds of meetings took place in that period among Dahal, Sitaula and Singh for constituting a coalition government among the Maoist Center, Nepali Congress and the Tarai based parties (now Janata Samajbadi Dal). The two NC leaders loyal to Delhi had also assured Dahal as the prime minister for five years. However, Dahal betrayed the NC leaders’ offer and abruptly announced a merger of his party with the UML by giving birth to the Nepal Communist Party.

In an interview with local television, Singh disclosed Delhi’s interests and betrayal by Dahal on Delhi’s proposal.

Singha said that neither NC nor JSP is going to back Dahal without Dahal’s proper clarification on his stance three years ago.

Claver and cunning Dahal wished to become the chairman of a large party having a two-thirds majority. The other reason was that Dahal had felt that Oli, physically weak and an old kidney patient cannot be active in politics, so that, he will become the sole leader of the largest party. Therefore, he had betrayed Delhi’s offer.

However, when Oli’s government published Nepal’s political map by including Kalapani-Limpiyuadhara-Lipulekh Nepali territory, it was already expected the demise of Oli’s political life. Then, the partnership between Dahal and Madhav Nepal was intensified against PM Oli. Finally, within three years, the NCP has been split, the hidden reason is said to be the publication of a new political map of Nepal.
