Political commentary

Nothing is good in the country. The Prime Minister and ministers are busy organizing mass meetings and lambasting leaders in other faction of the Nepal Communist Party.
The Police is yet to identify the culprit of Bhagarathi Bhatta, a lady murdered after a rape. As the ministers are busy organising mass meetings, the day to day government works has been affected.
Similarly, the rival faction in NCP led by Pushpakamal Dahal and Madhav Nepal is busing in demonstrating their strength by organizing mass meetings protesting against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s action of dissolution of the House of Representatives.
Although the case of the dissolution of the HoR is under the consideration of the Supreme Court and the constitutional bench of five SC justices is looking after the constitutional provisions regarding the dissolution of the parliament, the Dahal-Nepal faction has warned the SC saying that a large crowd will encircle the SC if it will give the verdict in favour of PM Oli.
Madhav Nepal, the second chairman of the Dahal Nepal faction warned to encircle the SC.
Again, NCP Dahal-Nepal faction’s first chairman Pushpakamal Dahal, the other day, addressing a mass meeting in Kathmandu, had asked the SC to see the crowd against the unconstitutional act of the PM.
Dahal, addressing a function organised to observe the 26th anniversary of the “people’s war” had warned for launching yet another movement to save the achievements.
Dahal had said that time has come to sacrifice for the nation again.
Interestingly, both the factions are organizing mass meetings by bringing people from nearby districts by paying money and both the factions are competing to show larger gathering in such mass meetings.
On Saturday, Oli faction organised a mass meeting in Butwal. Oli, addressing the mass meeting, challenged his rivals to visit Butwal to see the participation of the people in support of his action.
Oli also challenged his rival faction to wait till the election result that which faction would get people’s mandate.
He claimed that his faction will easily bag the majority in the upcoming election.
On the other hand, the Dahal-Nepal faction is seen as reluctant to participate in the election even if the SC will approve Oli’s act for dissolving the parliament.
The Nepali Congress, on the other hand, organised a nationwide demonstration against the unconstitutional act of Oli, however, the party has denied launching joint agitation together with NCP Dahal-Nepal faction.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba has opined that his party will respect the SC’s verdict whatever be the Court’s decision.
Only after the Court’s verdict, the party will take a concrete decision, he said.
Deuba said that nobody should carry out activities affecting the court verdict.
No election in April and May:
Now, it has become almost confirm that election is not possible on given dates in April and May. There is very less time left for the Election Commission to prepare for the election.
As the hearing process in the constitutional bench has prolonged, still, it is believed that the SC verdict will be delayed by some more weeks.
From the delayed verdict from the constitutional bench, te election Commission has become confused in preparation for the election. If the Commission will prepare for the election, its efforts will be wasted in case the SC will restore the parliament.
Again, the EC itself has not been able to finalise the dispute between the two factions of the NCP. The Dahal-Nepal faction on Sunday said that how the EC would start election preparation without finalizing the NCP dispute!
EC had invited political parties to discuss the election code of conduct.
Oli’s mood:
PM Oli is not in a mood to tender resignation and pave the way for his rival to run the government so easily. Even if the House of Representatives is restored, there will be a hung parliament and Oli would try to make a coalition government in partnership with NC’s Sher Bahadur Deuba. In case, Oli will fail while developing a partnership with NC, he may declare an emergency and try to prolong his tenure in the government.
In the meantime, Oli may try to open files related to corruption and abuse of authority against the political leaders.
Considering the possible scenario, leaders in Oli’s rival faction are trying their best to heat the streets and topple down Oli through a movement.
