Rival NCP factions in strength showing race

By Our Reporter

The two warring factions of the ruling Nepal Communist Party continued their strength showing race this week.

While the Dahal-Nepal faction showed their strength in Biratnagar and Dhangadhi by drawing a huge crowd of their supporters, with the biggest crowd in Dhangadhi, Prime Minister Oli addressed three major rallies — in Dang, Chitwan and Siraha.

Likewise, Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel and Foreign Affairs Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali also addressed a number of mass meetings. Pokhrel was welcomed in Nuwaot with stones and black flags. His trip to Nuwakot caused tension as the cadres of rival factions tried to obstruct his movements there.

Now the Oli-faction is bracing for its biggest mass meeting scheduled for Friday in Kathmandu while the Dahal-Nepal faction is preparing for their mass meeting of Wednesday, next week.

One of the important features of the mass meeting is that the leaders of both factions have been exchanging hatred language against each other, with Prime Minister Oli topping all in using bad words against his former colleagues. When one compares words used by the leaders, Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal look more civilized that Prime Minister Oli and leaders of his group in choosing the words.

Terms like ‘broker’, agents of foreign forces, anti-development, power-hungry, family-oriented and barbaric are common in PM Oli’s hate speeches. His words of scorn do not match with the post of the Prime Minister.

Although words of Dahal and Nepal look more digestive than Oli’s, they have tried to show that Oli has no faith in the existing system and was working for the regressive forces.

Going by the use of bad words, it looks almost impossible reunification of the NCP although Bam Dev Gautam has launched a campaign for the same.
