A nation like the United States, considered the most powerful country in the world, has been defeated. Millions of lives have been lost without any bullet being fired.
Yes, we are talking about the Covid-19 virus which has engulfed the world. Except in trying to develop some effective vaccines nothing has ben done much even while so many people died.
In Nepal, the situation is worse with fragmented parties not knowing what to do. It is a sad fact that the major political parties are indulging only in fighting amongst themselves while hundreds of Nepalis, that also mostly poor ones are either suffering in the hospital or even death.
The government had said it was prepared for the virus when it was spreading in the early stages, then it has spent billions of rupees, mostly in useless ventures. The best technique it has applied in diverting the attention of the people. There are so many issues that are there that the people have been confused about what is important. When most countries of the world have already said the conravirus is a major threat, the Nepalese authorities are only interested in rhetoric and almost everyday new issues are coming up.
The worst point is the constant fighting between the parties and the fighting within them as well. The Nepali Congress tried to stage a show of force on Tuesday, but it just fizzled out. Of course, that did not stop them from blaming the King for many wrongdoings. Had the Covid 19 virus been a political issue, they would have instantly blamed the King and also brought out some of their cadres to the streets. Except for many good things, what the kings do to torment the people! In fact, it has been after the two movements for “loktantra” that things have become intolerable, but the people cannot speak out because they are not organized and fully aware that foreign powers and those under their grip are ruining things. From the politicians to bureaucrats, the major media, big businessmen and others in between, all of them have some connection with the foreign country or the other. So, before “loktantra” and say, just after the introduction of the multi-party system, the monarch became the punching bag of most of the politicians, their workers and the foreign-backed individuals. Any small things happened and they were promptly out on the streets. It could be a little rise in petroleum products a protest here and a protest there and there was an uproar. The so-called activists who have been largely rewarded now came out on the streets at the drop of a hat. But they could never go against the armed Maoists or say anything when the King did some good works. When there was a near confrontation between the government and the seven parties and Maoists combined, the King could have killed thousands of people to defeat the rebels, but even some top army officers said that the king ordered them not to kill any Nepalese.
Now whom would the political parties blame? Their inability to deal with the difficult situation has been wide open for everyone to see. When the most powerful man on earth Donald Trump who was the president of America does nothing, who could have the King done and what have the political parties done now? The King has been made the enemy of the nation just because of some foreigners and their Nepalese henchmen, but we can always live with the hope that the Covid virus will also go away and so will all the corrupt politicians, bureaucrats, police personnel and those who are muddying the environment of this once beautiful and peaceful country.
