A wake-up call

On/Off the Record

By P.R. Pradhan

Our ancestors have written a glorious history of bravery. They, by shedding their blood, had saved their motherland and gifted that to us. It is a precious gift of our ancestors that’s how we can say with pride that we are the Nepalis! If we are the real citizen of this country and if we respect our ancestor who has gifted this precious gift, we should not allow anybody to loot the nation; we should not remain as a silent spectator on the present anomalies taking place in the country; we should not accept foreigners’ conspiracy aimed at removing our glorious history, culture, religion, tradition, and our existence.

In 2006 April, we had witnessed a human sea against the institution of monarchy. The background of the so-called people’s movement 2 was the 12-point agreement between the seven parliamentarian parties and the Maoists in a bloody insurgency in coordination and cooperation of the Indian intelligence RAW and the South Block officials immediately after Nepal’s advocacy for bringing China in the SAARC at the Dacca SAARC Summit. Understandably, with the visible support of the Indian intelligence and the South Block, a human sea was witnessed in Kathmandu.

Within 14 years of introduction of the present “loktantra”, within 12 years of the dethronement of the institution of monarchy and within five years of promulgation of the present constitution, Nepali people, especially dominated by those youths, are heating the streets demanding restoration of the institution of monarchy and re-declaring Nepal a Hindu nation. Every day, we see youths in demonstration carrying Nepal’s national flag in different parts of the country including the Kathmandu Valley.

Fade-up from the present political actors, the demonstrators want better Nepal, that they believe, it is possible only under the institution of monarchy. Youths believe, they were misguided by the political leaders by misinforming about the institution. They have now confessed that the political leaders are the liars, who only distributed false premises, but they pretended to become the king by ousting the real king. Today, there are hundreds of kings instead of one king earlier. The difference between the king and the political leaders is that the king always took concern about the country and the citizens’ betterment, whereas, the political leaders are self-centred and they are taking concern about themselves and their nearer and dearer only.

Nothing is better in the present “loktantrik” era. The criminals who are responsible for the killing of above 17 thousand innocent Nepalis are in power. Those, involved in looting the banks and public property are enjoying power. Even after they joined the peace process, their looting habit didn’t go. They never felt the plight of the general public.

Today, the nation is very badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Those in tourism and public transportation business have been seriously suffered from prolonged lockdown in the country. Likewise, industrialists have faced a huge loss in their business. They are unable to pay back their bank loans. The government is doing nothing to rescue them.

The government has reduced the Covid-19 test by insisting the citizens conduct the test by themselves. Along with the production of the vaccine against the Covid-19 pandemic, all the countries in the region have already started the process to import such vaccine with the plan of eradicating Covid-19 earliest as possible by providing the vaccine to their citizens at free of cost. Nepal has not started the procurement process and waiting for the vaccine on the grant.

Farmers are suffering from a shortage of fertilizer, sugarcane farmers are in agitation as the sugar factories didn’t pay their past dues for years. These are a few examples only. The communists in the government are reluctant in resolving the problems faced by the people, rather, they are granting protection to those brokers and defaulters who have exploited those poor Nepalis and the nation. Now, the leaders are fighting against each other claiming for more shares in the loot.

Perhaps, the above scenario and the hopeless situation have influenced the youths to come down to the streets spontaneously against the government and system and in favour of the institution of monarchy and the Hindu nation.

This is just a wake-up call to other Nepalis who are still in a deep sleep. If we remain as a silent spectator, those bad leaders will continue to rule us and exploit us further. Therefore, this is the time to support spontaneous youths in agitation for a noble cause.
