Kathmandu, 16 November: Presently, the ruling Nepal Communist Party is on the verge of a split. Why the party having a virtually two-thirds majority is at the brink of a split, it is a burning question. The reality is that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is not given free hands to work and he has reached to the conclusion that he is unable to work together with co-chairman Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda who is encouraging favouritism, nepotism and sycophancy in the party.
According to a highly placed source, a cabinet reshuffle is the main reason behind the present dispute. When PM Oli wished to oust those ministers who have completed two years – except from two prominent ministers Ishwor Pokhrel and Rambahadur Thapa – and include some new faces in the cabinet, Prachanda saw his daughter-in-law Bina Magar was going to be ousted. Again, he saw that Rambahdaur Thapa becoming closed to PM Oli. Also, minister Lekraj Bhatta, who is yet to complete two years in the ministry would continue as the minister. Bhatta was sided with Oli in the previous dispute. Again, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi who was sided with PM Oli in the previous dispute is becoming a minister, he rejected Oli’s plan to reshuffle the cabinet. Oli, after rejection from Prachanda, postponed overhaul of the cabinet and just included three new ministers in the vacant posts. Oli has still kept vacant the defence portfolio to adjust Bamdev Gautam. However, those greedy leaders who want to make Oli unsuccessful and include their men in the government positions, have created the present dispute which is not an ideological dispute.
They have developed the front just to assign their relatives and sycophants in the constitutional organs, ambassadorial positions and other lucrative positions as much as possible. This is the reason that the “strong” government is unable to reshuffle the cabinet, assignment in the constitutional positions and other vacant posts, say political observers.
