Lonely Planet has named Nepal’s Annapurna Circuit as one of the top 10 most incredible travel experiences in the world.
In the second edition of its Ultimate Travel List, the international travel guidebook has ranked Annapurna Circuit 10th out of 500 thrilling, memorable and interesting places on the planet that have been ranked in order of their brilliance, it said.
There are experiences to suit everyone, from short treks to month-long journeys of the Annapurna Circuit and Sanctuary trails, the guidebook said, noting that the Annapurna massif has long been considered one of the world’s greatest treks. It is everything a good trek should be — challenging, majestic and inspirational. And at the end of the day, some of Nepal’s best lodges offer hot meals, apple pie and pots of milky tea, it added.
Remarking that it was not a scenery to rush, the world-renowned travel guide described the beauty of the Thorung La Pass, Tilicho Lake and Ngawal Village and other mesmerising sceneries that travellers can encounter during their trek. It also said that a journey around the circuit would be fulfilling.
Topping the travel list this year is the ancient ‘lost city’ of Petra in Jordan, with other destinations in the top 10 being Galápagos islands off the coast of Ecuador, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in Australia, Okavango Delta in Botswana, Yellow National Park of the United States of America, Lake Bled of Slovenia, Iguazú Falls of the Iguazu River on the Argentina-Brazil border, Angkor temples in Cambodia and the salt flat Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia.
