When the ruling Nepal Communist Party has been trying to overcome the long dispute in the party, rivalry in the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, has escalated after party president Sher Bahadur Deuba started appointing in the departments just six months before his term is to expire.
According to party statute, the departments should have been formed within six months after the general convention, but Deuba is forming them just six months before his term as party chief is to expire. Moreover, he added departments appointed his men as a strategy to consolidate his position so that he could become party chief again.
But the rival factions led by Ram Chandra Paudel and Krishna Sitaula have challenged his move.
In a new development, the rival faction has decided to launch a protest against the illegal move taken by him.
The rival faction led by senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel Sunday decided to mount pressure on Deuba to withdraw the recent decisions to form various departments and the distribution of active membership by bringing on board another faction led by leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
The two factions held a virtual meeting and discussed a possible programme of protest against Deuba’s monopoly. In the meeting, youth leaders Gagan Thapa and Pradeep Paudel, both close to leader Sitaula, expressed their commitment to protesting against the latest move of party chief by bringing the faction leader Sitaula on broad.
In the meeting, senior leader Paudel, general secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala, leaders Dr Shekhar Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Arjun Narasingh KC, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, Bal Bahadur KC, Mahesh Acharya, Dhan Raj Gurung, Chandra Bhandari, Nabindra Raj Joshi, Gururaj Ghimire, Jiwan Pariyar, Kalyan Gurung, Kamala Panta, Thapa, Paudel, Umakanta Chaudhari and others were present.
A leader present in the discussion informed that they discussed to warn Deuba verbally and in written to withdraw his illegal decisions and if he did not listen to their voices, they would start phase-wise protest programme and finally fast-unto-death.
