The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has finally formed a six-member task force to recommend suggestions to resolve the disputes surfaced in the party for the past few months.
However, the formation of the task force on Friday by inducting two leaders each loyal to party chairs KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal by the two-party chairmen was challenged stating that it should have been formed by the party secretariat.
On Monday, a meeting of the secretariat endorsed the task force consisting of Bishnu Paudel and Shanker Pokhrel from Oli camp, Janardan Sharma and Pampha Bhusal from Dahal group and Bhim Rawal and Surendra Pandey from Nepal faction.
Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, after the secretariat meeting, said the secretariat meeting gave legitimacy to the taskforce.
“The task force will work actively and present a report shortly. We are hopeful that the task force will sort out the current political deadlock within the party,” said Shrestha.
The Secretariat meeting of the party convened on Monday after a hiatus of almost a month, following an agreement between the two chairmen to settle the intra-party differences as per the broader understanding reached between them.
Earlier the party Secretariat meeting was held on July 18.
The meeting was called after the senior leaders including Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and party Spokesperson Shrestha voiced that the formation of such a task force should be through the official meeting.
The task force formed as per vice-chair Gautam’s point suggestions he floated last month will, however, trim the wings of PM Oli, as it is likely to suggest a reshuffle in the existing cabinet by removing many ministers, and make appointments in the cabinet and constitutional bodies by sharing the posts among the three main factions and other sub-factions.
Many ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel, may lose their posts if the suggestions are implemented.
