The relations between the two chairmen of ruling Nepal Communist Party have gone so sour that they stopped talking each other for over a week.
Party chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and another chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal have not sat for talks since August 4. The term between the two chairmen turned further sour after the government-appointed Sushil Bhatta as Chief Executive Officer of National Investment Board.
It was reported that the two chairs had quarrelled in the August 4 meeting over Bhatta’s appointment, as Bhatta is a controversial man for the post.
Earlier, the two chairs had halted their one-on-one meeting for a week from July 28.
However, in the new rounds of meeting, NCP senior leaders Jhala Nath Khanal and Subas Nembang had also been participating in the meeting.
It seems the dispute between the two factions of the ruling party will continue till the next general convention of the party scheduled for April next year.
Although the two leaders were said to have talks on August 5, the meeting was postponed and it has not been resumed since then.
The situation worsened further after Dahal and other leaders, including Khanal, Madahv Kumar Nepal and spokesman Narayan Kaji Shrestha organised a press meet on the dispute in the party.
The faction led by PM Oli strongly objected to the press meet. Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel in an interview with the two official dailies, Gorkhapatra and The Rising Nepal on Sunday strongly condemned the press meet organised by Dahal.
Although Nepambang, Bishnu Paudel and Shankar Pokharel tried to resume the stalled talks between two leaders reaching Dahal residence in Khumaltar, Dahal refuted to continue the talks. Instead, he asked the leaders closed to Oli to ensure that that the stalled Standing Committee meeting would be resumed.
The NCP intra-party feud has deepened further after the Oli and Dahal-Nepal camps did not budge away from their respective stances. The Dahal-Nepal camp has long been demanding Oli’s resignation at least from one of his posts.
On the other hand, Oli wants to have a graceful exit by handing over the post of chairmanship through the general convention of the party and wants to the lead the government until the term of the existing House of Representatives.
