The government has been neglecting the risks of COVID-19 after the cases started declining this week. However, the cases have declined with the reduction in tests.
The government which had claimed to carry at least 10,000 PCR tests a day from July has been testing less than 5,000 individuals a day. And the cases of COVID-19 seem to have dropped with the limited tests. Experts said that the government was playing with people’s life by reducing the tests in recent days when more cases are being detected in the Kathmandu Valley.
The situation is such that experts have stopped attending the meeting of the Health Ministry after the latter was not serious about increasing the scope of testing. Dr. Bhagawan Koirala, who stopped attending the meeting said that the government was neglecting the pandemic.
Now Nepal has more than 17,000 cases and in recent days, cases are on the rise in the densely populated valley, but the government seems reluctant to control its spread in the valley.
The government has already allowed the operation of businesses and public transportation, with the increasing mobility of the people, cases are sure to surge. But the government seems less serious about this fact.
Not only the government has limited testing of COVID-19, anyone who suspects to have infected with the virus has to undergo ordeals to tests. The other day filmmaker KP Pathak shared the problems he faced to have a test after his mother was tested positive for the virus.
When almost all hospitals in Kathmandu have infected patients or staff, the disease can spread rapidly here. And tracing and testing are the only ways to find the actual patients of COVID-19, but the government has been too weak in these two aspects.
