Just last week, one Nepali youth, Sambar Gurung, deployed to save India’s boundary in Jammu-Kashmir, died after firing from the Pakistani side. Sad to state, those dead Nepalies will be criminated in India and their family in Nepal even cannot pay last respect to the dead bodies.

Nepalis are brave warriors but not mercenaries. Our rulers, for their personal gains, have compelled the Nepali youths to shed their blood in the protection of foreign countries’ boundaries. British ruled in India. They started recruiting Nepali youths in the British Army, which is still continuing. Many brave Nepalis shed their blood to protect and preserve the British interests. Nepalis fought World War II not for Nepal but for the British imperialist. Nepalis in the British Gurkha regiment were mobilized in the Folkland war, making the UK victorious. In Afghanistan also, the Gurkha force in the British Army was deployed to protect British interests.

The same story applies to the Gorkha regiments in the Indian Army. When there was war between India and China in 1962, the Gorkha force was the offensive force and many Nepali youths in the Indian Army were captured by the Chinese force.

Again, the Nepali soldiers in the Gorkha Regiments in the Indian force were deployed in different wars with Pakistan as an offensive force.

When the Indian security force was deployed in Sri Lanka in the name of establishing peace there, the very Gorkha force was deployed there.

Currently, the Gorkha force is deployed in India-Pakistan disputed territory in India occupied Kashmir, where, regular cross-firing is taking place and Nepalis are being killed frequently.

Both the countries – the United Kingdom and India – are using the Gorkha force in their army in danger zones as the offensive force. It is clear, they believe the Nepalis are the mercenaries, therefore, first of all, the very force has to be sent on the frontline as even if they will die, they will not lose their citizens but the individuals hired to fight the war.

Nepalis using against Nepal’s friendly countries:

We have friendly relations with China, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. But the Indians are using the very Nepali warriors in the Gorkha Regiments against the friendly countries even violating the tripartite agreement among the UK, India, and Nepal.

What benefits for Nepal?

It is the Nepali leaders’ weakness that they are unable to create a job for the youths. Therefore, those youths are compelled to join such a dangerous job. On the other hand, in the name of pension distribution, the Indians are running Soldier Bard Offices even in remote districts. This is the sole plan of spying against Nepal and China.

British discrimination:

The British government has discriminated against the British Gurkhas on salary, pension, and other facilities. With the same rank, the British citizen is getting a higher salary, pension, and other facilities, on the other hand, the Nepalis in the Gurkha force are getting a very nominal amount. Such discrimination is being strongly protested by Ex-Gurkha organizations.

On the other hand, the British government is supplying the Gurkha force to Brunei and other countries by taking an extra profit.

Will Indian Gorkhas fight for Nepal?

Some Nepalis argue that the Gorkha force in the Indian Army will fight for Nepal if there will be war with India. This is just a hypothetical argument. As the Nepali youths have taken an oath to save the Indian soil, they may become ready to fight against Nepal, it will be a foolish expectation to get their support on war with India.

Conclusion:

As Nepal is not a nation producing mercenaries, Nepal should immediately stop sending Nepali youths in a foreign army. Instead, Nepal should increase the Nepal Army strength by employing at least one million youths and using the force in construction works in infrastructure sectors. In the meantime, the government may establish a “Construction Army” to carry out infrastructure development works.
