Nepal Communist Party chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that the recent state-visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping had added a new arena in trilateral relationship between Nepal, China and India.
While addressing a workshop “Role of Strengthening Cooperation between Nepal and China People-to-people Relation and Role of Media,” organised by Nepal-China Media Forum on Friday, he further said the announcement of President XI to help turn land-locked Nepal into a land-linked country had heartened Nepali people and strengthened mutual relations.
Nepal has always been following the one-China policy, regardless of any government and any administration said Dahal. “China’s diplomatic policy on Nepal had always remained same,” he said.
The border disputes in Kalapani and Susta must be resolved through diplomatic channels, chairman Dahal said.
“Being aggressive and emotional will not work. The matter should be resolved conscientiously,” he said.
He said Nepal must maintain balanced relations with its two big neighbours, India and China.
Dahal said the government had already drawn attention of the Indian government over the Kalapani issue..
In the past, political leaders were accused of being pro-Indian, pro-Chinese and pro-American and they had also acted accordingly, said Dahal, adding that now everyone should be pro Nepali and national interests should be their top priority.
“Let’s not be a follower of any individual country. Nepal must be the central priority of everyone and the major focus must be on protecting our nationality and national sovereignty.”
Nepali Congress leader and former Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat said the relation between Nepal and China was age-old and deep-rooted.
He said Nepal and China have been close neighbours sharing common border and have strong political, economic, social and cultural relations.
Bishnu Rijal, Deputy Chief of Department of Foreign Affairs, Nepal Communist party said Nepal-China has developed mutual relation in three dimensions, one in a governmental level, second on public and third in ideological levels.
Wang Xialong, Chief of Political and Press Section, embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal spoke about various aspects of Nepal-China relations. He said that Nepal and China were enjoying good relations since centuries.
Dahal postpones his China visit
Nepal Communist Party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has postponed his China visit, which was scheduled from December10.
He was planning to fly to the northern neighbour at the invitiation of Communist Party of China, leading a jumbo team of 60 from his party.
It is speculated that Dahal deferred his visit citing the health condition of Prime Minister KP Oli who is now in rest in hospital after undergoing an operation to his appendicitis.
