Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has finally reshuffled the Cabinet by removing nine ministers and inducting the same number of new faces in his 25-member Cabinet last week. But the public has raised question as to why the Cabinet was reshuffled as they could not expect any important thing from the new ministers.
Again, he did not remove the incompetent ministers who had failed to deliver, for example Water Supply Minister Bina Magar. But he removed Labour Minister Gokarna Bista even though he had delivered.
The reshuffle was made amidst uncertainty as to when and how the Prime Minister would reshuffle the cabinet.
And it was only in late evening on last Wednesday, the media and the people knew about the reshuffle after the President’s Office made public a list of reconstituted Cabinet.
Prime Minister Oli has inducted six new ministers and three state ministers in his Cabinet while removing the same number of ministers.
Among the new faces inducted included Bashanta Nembang as Minister for Minister for Physical Infrastructure, HridayasTripathi as Minister for General Administration, Parbat Gurung as Minister for Women, Ghanshyam Bhusal as Minister for Agriculture, Lekhraj Bhatta as Minister for Commerce and Rameshwar Raya Yadav as Minister for Labor.
Likewise, Moti Dugad, Rambir Manandhar and Nawaraj Rawal were inducted as the state ministers for Industry, Urban Development and Health respectively.
Deputy Prime Minister Upendra Yadav was given the responsibility of Law, Justice and Federal Affairs Ministry in place of Health Ministry. Minister for Law Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal is given the portfolio of health minister.
PM Oli did not change the responsibility of Defense Minister Ishwar Pokhrel, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali, Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun, Minister for Communication Information Technology Gokul Baskota, Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai, Water Supply Minister Bina Magar, Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel and Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada.
The sacked ministers included Minister for Physical Infrastructure Raghubir Mahaseth, Minister for General Administration Lalbabu Pandit, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Tham Maya Thapa, Minister for Agriculture Chakrapan iKhanal, Minister for Commerce MatrikaYadav and Minister for Labor Gokarna Bista.
Many have raised question regarding Gokarna Bista as he was one of the ministers to perform well in the Cabinet, but he was sacked probably in the pressure of manpower agents. However, when PM Oli did not move Bina Magar, who had a bad record of performance, many said she was retained in the grace of her father-in-law and party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
