Kathmandu, 22 April: Italian construction company CMC Rivena has stopped all construction works of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project for last two weeks.
According to Senior Divisional Engineer Rajendra Prasad Pant, the construction company, the sole contractor of the Melamchi Project, is saying that due to lack of money to buy construction materials, the construction works have been stopped, reports Nepal Samacharpatra daily.
On 10 April, tunnel-digging works were completed, however, out of 26 kms tunnel, finishing works are yet to be completed in 24 kms of tunnel.
The tunnel break-through event was celebrated with big fanfare and Minister Bina Magar had expressed the commitment to supply drinking water to the Valley people before the Dasain festival in September.
