  • China keenly interested to reopen Korala border

    Kathmandu, 5 August: China is showing interest to reopen two border points. Chinese officials have been holding talks with Nepali officials to reopen Korala border in Upper Mustang and Hilsa border in Sudurpachim province.

    Chinese have been holding talks with officials from both Gandaki and Sudurpachim provinces in the past week. They have been arguing that reopening the borders will bring a lot of financial gain to both provinces. They have also pledged to build roads.

  • New measures being taken at TIA to curb illegal activies

    Kathmandu,5 August: A modern system is being put in place at the immigration office at the airport to curb down issues like fake passports, fake visas, and delay in working.

    The system is being placed to make sure there are no problems during Visit Nepal year 2020. The Department of Immigration is installing a system which is being used by India, USA, and England.

  • Infra summit slated for September

    Kathmandu, 5 August :The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) is planning to organize Nepal Infrastructure Summit on September 11 and 12. It is expected that the summit this year will be attended by around 500 investors from Nepal and foreign countries.

    “The purpose of the investment summit is not only to attract investment but also to learn about the practices of developed countries in terms of infrastructural development,” reads a  CNI, press statement.

    Through the summit, the CNI aims to forge stringer networks and alliances in the region for seamless connectivity and shared growth, and to prioritize the delivery of green, climate-resistant infrastructure projects to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.

  • Chinese national nabbed with smuggled gold

    Kathmandu, 5 August: A Chinese national was held with four kilograms of smuggled gold from the Tribhuwan International Airport on Sunday night.

    The Chinese national has been identified as Li Nigsi. He was arrested upon his arrival at the TIA. Police have launched an investigation. However, the custom authorities have yet to confirm whether the seized yellow metal is gold or not.

  • CIAA files corruption case against VC of BPKIHS

    Kathmandu, 4 August: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Sunday filed a corruption case at the Special Court against the Vice-Chancellor of BK Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Raj Kumar Rauniyar, on the charge of corruption.

    The anti-corruption constitutional body has said Rauniyar received Rs 12.8 million in bribe from contractors who won contracts to construct hostel and pharmacy building at the institute.

    Earlier, the commission had received a complaint against Rauniyar claiming he received bribe from Sushil Kumar Jha from Gina Construction Company. The complainant had also submitted an audio record of the deal.

    In the meanwhile, the commission also filed another case against Rauniyar’s nephew, Ram Hari, who also works at the institute, on a similar charge. He has been accused of receiving Rs 800,000 bribe.

  • Ex-Crown Princess Himani’s generosity !

    Kathmandu, 4 August :Former Crown Princess Himani Shah has announced to set up a disaster relief fund to help the victims of natural disasters.

    Himani, who is also president of Himani Trust, made the announcement during a press conference in the capital on Sunday. She said that the fund will be utilized to provide assistance to flood and landslide-hit people across the country.

    Himani also unveiled a book entitled “SandeshSangraha”, the compilation of speeches delivered by former king and her father-in-law Gyanendra Shah on several occasions in the past.The Himani Trust had also extended financial assistance to earthquake-hit people in 2015.

  • By-elections in Kaski-2, search of apt candidate begins

    Kathmandu, 4 August: With the announcement of the date for the by-elections by the Election Commission, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) have intensified their search for candidates in Kaski-2, the only constituency which has a vacant seat for the federal parliament after the death of Rabindra Adhikari, according to media reports.
    Kaski-2, the constituency of late Tourism Minister who died in a helicopter accident in February, is slated to go for the by-elections together with other constituencies with vacant seats at local and provincial levels on November 30.
    NCP veteran Bamdev Gautam and late Adhikari’s widow, Bidya Bhattarai, have been seen as the front runners for the seat from among half a dozen contenders, while one among Devraj Chalise and Soviet Bahadur Adhikari is the most likely candidate from NC.
    Chalise, who had lost the election to Adhikari by a slim margin, is the party’s favourite, according to a senior NC leader. According to sources, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged Gautam, a party veteran, to contest the by-elections from the constituency.

  • Solu Campus teaches tourism and mountaineering sans fees

    Kathmandu, 4 August: Solukhumbu Multiple Campus has decided to provide free mountaineering and tourism courses to nearly 500 students. The initiative is being undertaken by the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation. The campus has started the Mechi-Kali initiative which aims to seek support from stakeholders throughout Nepal. The campus aims to educate over 500,000 people and wants to show the world that what a good public campus looks like. As of end of July over Rs 1.6 million has been collected so far.

  • Biplav being booked

    Kathmandu, 4 August: The government has shown signs of taking strict measures to control Netra Bikram Chand aka Biplav -led Nepal Communist Party’s activities. Sources close to the government have said that the government had grown tired of waiting on Chand to hold talks and is preparing to go aggressive and arrest more leaders of the splinter group. Chand-led party had exploded 25 bombs across the country on Thursday, according to Nagarik daily.

  • 33 Kg gold smuggling case : accused walks in freedom

    Kathmandu, 3 August: The Supreme Court has upheld the verdict of the High Court Biratnagar and ordered the release of businessperson Mahabir Golyan in connection to the smuggling of 33 and half kg of gold and Sanam Shakya murder case.

     The joint bench of Justices Anil Kumar Sinha and Sushma Lata Mathema ordered the release of businessperson Golyan on bail of Rs 1 million. Others accused ones, however, will remain in custody as the case was still in subjudice. Earlier, the District Court Morang had ordered that the accused ones would not be freed on bail. The High Court of Biratnagar had upheld the suit. As per the decisions, 28 persons accused of the notorious gold smuggling case including Sanjaya Bahadur Raut, Tularam Tharu, Ram Kumar Tiwari, Govinda Prasad Niraula, Rajan Thapa, Gopal Kumar Shrestha, Hemanta Gautam, Sambir Prasad Tolange, Madan Silwal, Amarman Dangol and Bal Krishna Shrestha would be kept in custody.
