Above 1500 Nepalis studying in Germany

By Our Reporter
German ambassador Roland Schäfer said that above 1500 Nepalis are studying in Germany.
Speaking at a talk programme organised by the German Alumni — Nepal German Academic Association (NEGAAS) — on ‘Retrospect and Prospect of Nepal-Germany Relations: The Role of Alumni in Nepal’s Development’, the ambassador said, “More than 1500 Nepali currently study in Germany. This is only a small part of what our relationship is about: learning and developing together.”
Shedding light on Nepal-German relations, the ambassador said, “Nepal has come a long way since our relationship started in 1958, and so has Germany. Today, linking up to Germany means linking up to the whole of the European Union, and to all its member states. We want more Nepalis to live this enlarged partnership in their studies and their work. This is my dream for the success story of the coming sixty years.”
Dr. Madan Bhattarai, former foreign secretary and former ambassador to Japan said, “There are strong possibilities of further promoting cooperation between Nepal and Germany in the changed context of political stability and change of emphasis towards socio-economic transformation under the concept of a Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali.”
Bhattarai further said, “While we can continue cooperation in areas that have been agreed between the two sides, there is a real possibility of extending mutual cooperation in the field of communication and information technology, biotechnology, academic and scientific cooperation, herbal medicine, etc. for a win-win cooperation between the two countries.”
Prof. Dr. Ramesh K. Maskey, President of NEGAAS and Dr. Roshana Shrestha, founder of NEGAAS also spoke on the occasion.
