Former King Gyanendra’s birthday observed

Kathmandu, 8 July: Former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev’s 73rd birthday has been observed today. A large number of people visited Nirmal Niwas and extended birthday wishes to the former King. The Main Civilian Birthday Celebration Committee organised a rally in Maharajgunj. The rally was participated by thousands of people from different walk of life. The rally was concluded after reaching Nirmal Niwas, private residence of the former King.

The former King, however, didn’t give audience to the citizens, therefore, the visitors wrote birthday wishes on registers kept at Nirmal Niwas.

According to Nepal Samacharpatra daily, the former King didn’t celebrate his birthday in public due to demise of his relatives.

In the recent past, the former King’s relatives Pravakar Shumsher Rana and Prabal Shumsher Rana, among others were died.

On the occasion of the 73rd birthday of the former King, “Sandesh Sangraha” (compilation of messages, addresses and interviews by the former King was released today. The former King has penned one article justifying his tenure as the King and in which circumstances he became king. Dr Phani Pathak, former King’s press secretary is the chief editor of the compilation.
