Wide body aircraft purchase deal and Deuba

By Our Reporter
Several leaders, including Nepali Congress president SherBahadurDeuba, have been dragged into the wide-body aircraft purchase deal in which over Rs 4.35 billion was found to be misappropriated.
When the media started floating news suggesting Deuba’s involvement in the scam, as his spouse Arzoo was portrayed to have her hand in several of the corrupt cases, Deubahas denied his involvement in the procurement of two wide-body jets by Nepal Airlines Corporation..
Talking to media persons in Dhangadhi on Monday, the former prime minister brushed aside the allegations saying that his name was unnecessarily dragged into the controversy.
“Allegations against me are unfair,” Deuba said adding that no decision was made during his premiership in 2017 with regards to procure the two wide-body aircraft.
The tender process was initiated during the premiership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal and the wide-body aircraft was imported after KP Sharma Oli came to power. Nothing had happened in this regard when I also took the helm of tourism ministry after becoming the prime minister in 2017,” Deuba claimed.
Now when the involvement of Deuba and Dahal has been in the scam, the case is likely to be dismissed as the 33kg gold case. Prime Minister K P Oli too may not be ready to show Minister RabindraAdhikari and his co-chair Dahal as guilty in the case.
