Utilizing Pashupatinath Temple’s property

By PR Pradhan

According to a recent report, land mafias have captured 231 ropani and 10 aana land belonging to the Pashupatinath Temple. According to the Pashupatinath Development Trust, there is the possibility of missing more land belonging to the Temple. The Trust states that a total of 19 thousand ropanis of land belong to the Temple. However, the Temple is receiving very little revenue from such valuable land of the Temple. Accordingly, thousands of ropanis of land belonging to different temples/guthis are also being exploited by locals. In the meantime, the ruling party leaders are planning to end the guthi practice and privatize land belonging to different guthis by amending the existing laws under the influence of the land mafias.
In fact, the government should have formed a strong committee to recover such missing land belonging to different temples/guthis and give such land on rent at the current market rate with the aim of increasing revenue for these institutions. The increased revenue should be used to preserve and run daily pooja at the temples and the remaining amount should be deposited as an endowment fund for such temples and guthis (trusts). The interests received from such a fund should be used in operation of standard hospitals and educational institutions so that people can get better health and education at a very low cost. If the government will be able to provide such services by using guthi lands, people will not go to the private sector hospitals and schools run by medical and educational mafias. In such a way, the government could end medical and educational mafias’ exploitation of the people who seek such facilities. This scribe believes, this could help the political leaders to practice socialism.

Narendra Modi’s landslide victory in India:

Even the Bharatiya Janata Party workers and the RSS cadres had not believed that BJP would secure a landslide victory in the 2019 general elections. They were predicting that BJP would emerge as the largest party and form a coalition government. However, they have been surprised with the election results themselves.
Yes, Narendra Modi is going to continue as the Prime Minister of India for the next five year term unless something drastic befalls on the party or the prime minister. Our Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli rushed to congratulate Modi when the initial reports of the election result were made public. Pro-Indian intellectuals are debating on how the Modi policy on Nepal will be! Some sections have become happy, whereas, some sections have been afraid from the victory of BJP and Modi’s second innings as the PM of India. However, one should clearly understand that BJP or Modi will work in the interests of India, not in the interests of Nepal or Nepalis. One should not forget that Nepal had witnessed an inhuman economic blockade immediately after the devastating earthquake in Nepal. It is believed, earlier to the general elections in India, Modi and BJP leaders were engaged in election preparations/campaigns, therefore, the Modi government was unable to introduce a specific Nepal policy. Now, the government under Modi may introduce a new Nepal policy. One should not forget that India believes and treats Nepal as an India protected nation. India is not happy from the increasing presence of the West and North in Nepal. Therefore, what will be the reaction of India, we may see soon. Modi and his party BJP stand on the base of Hindutwa and they are deadly against the communists, Christians and Muslims (CCM). A radical Indian move can be witnessed on this part as well. Therefore, the days to come may not be comfortable for Oli and the ruling party. Indians may become active within the ruling party, said a journalist with reference to his Indian sources.
India is yet to recognize the new constitution in Nepal. The Indians want their ownership on the constitution as per the Indian role while inking the 12-point agreement back in 2006 when the present parties were in the opposition and the Maoists still underground. The hidden plan of the Indians is to amend the constitution with the provision of providing Nepali citizenship to those Indians who migrated to Nepal. PM KP Oli, to prolong his tenure, has already agreed to amend the citizenship law. When there was a delay in the amendment of the law, Home Minister Rambahadur Thapa had issued a circular to the 77 district administration officers to issue citizenship by birth to the children of those who have already obtained Nepali naturalized citizenship. When the district administration offices started distribution of citizenship to those qualified people, we saw crowds of Indian nationals arriving from across the Nepal-India borders to become citizens of an overwhelmed Nepal.
The political leaders, high-ranking government officials and even a large section of intellectuals are running for petty personal interests by discarding broader national interests. Therefore, they are intended to serve foreigners and foreign countries’ interests only.
How to tackle all these challenges, the government has not done any necessary home works. After the BJP formed the government, other neighbouring countries and power-nations are engaged in developing new strategy in their relations with India, however, PM Oli and his other colleagues in the government instead of doing homework, are trying to show their obedience towards their Indian bosses. This is how the Indians become successful to organize micro-management in Nepal. Nepali leaders are more responsible rather than the Indians on the rampant Indian intervention in Nepal’s internal affairs.
